Sian Buck. Your Doula
Bringing a baby into the world is the most meaningful moment we shall probably ever experience and one we will never forget. It puts everything into perspective and makes us who we are.
About Myself
I am British and have lived in the Zürich area for a little more than 25 years. My husband is Swiss and we have two adult children who were both born here. I worked in banking for many years, but when we started a family, that then became my focus. I am a positive, open and caring individual and want to draw on my experience and doula training to support other women and their families.
I had two very positive births and I want to help other mothers achieve the best possible birth experience for themselves too.
Languages: English and High German (I fully understand Swiss German)
Interests: Painting, Sketching, Reading, Photography, Cooking, Yoga and Various Sports.
Bezirke: Meilen, Uster and Zürich
My Previous Work Experience
Previous to arriving in Switzerland, I worked for 10 years in International Trading at a British Merchant Bank in London, (UK). 1984-1994
English Bank - Zürich Branch. 1994-1996
Whilst being a full time mother in Switzerland, I also gave English conversational language lessons, and assisted in Asian cookery courses to large groups on an ‘on-demand’ basis.
For three years previous to the start of my doula training, I volunteered weekly at a local Senior Citizens Residence. Here I realised the rewards one can gain personally by simply helping and connecting with others. This was also a key influence on my decision to train as a doula.
My Personal Approach as Your Doula
Drawing on my own training as a doula and experience as a mother, my aim is to help you in your own readiness for the arrival of your baby. As your doula, I will respect and support you and your wishes. I am prepared to offer various forms of all-round help when you need it and it is important to me that you feel that having a doula really does make a positive difference to your overall experience.
Choosing to enrol a doula as additional support is considered by many to be of real value and can enhance your birth experience in general. According to the WHO (World Health Organisation, 2019), having additional birth support has a positive influence on the outcome of births.
My overall focus is that the ‘mum-to-be’ is comfortable and confident about the upcoming birth, and not forgetting your partner too, who can rely on me for support whenever needed. If you seek answers to queries that you have, or want to know more about what choices are available to you in Switzerland, I will do my best to assist you. Whatever type of birth you are planning, I will do my upmost to help you achieve what you want, and in the way you want it to be. So you can feel secure, informed and well prepared each step of the way.
During labour, I will help you in a non-intrusive, personal, calm and steady way. As your birth companion, I can offer continuous individual support from pregnancy to postpartum - arranged in a way which brings you the degree of help you need, just when you need it.
I offer several support arrangements - also on a bespoke basis. My aim is to remain flexible, so that we can work together to arrange the best package which suits your needs and wishes. Feeling secure in the knowledge you have that extra cushion of support will make a real difference.
